Toothaches Must Be Treated

Posted .

Parties and dinners, gift exchanges and pageants, charity events and fundraisers. The holiday season can be a bit hectic! It’s tempting to let the little things slide. If your brushing and flossing habits slip, that could mean a toothache. Toothaches can really throw a wrench in your holiday plans!

First, how can a tooth hurt? The inside of your tooth is called pulp. A toothache is often caused by damage to the nerve endings inside the pulp. Damage to the pulp can occur because of an oral emergency, such as a cavity or an abcess, and the pain can be indicators that you require dental care.

For that reason, toothaches need to be treated by a dentist, not home remedies. Before you come to Orangeburg Dental Associates, there are some things you can do to try and reduce the discomfort. First, gently rinse your mouth out with warm water. Then, gently floss around the tooth in question. This will remove any debris or plaque that could be worsening the discomfort. Do NOT use non-ADA-approved materials to clean between teeth. All interdental cleaners must be ADA approved, or they could cause greater damage to your teeth and gums. After flossing, call your dentist.

Don’t let a toothache ruin your holiday plans! Continue your brushing and flossing routines regularly. But if a toothache does rear its ugly head, call Orangeburg Dental Associates in Orangeburg, South Carolina at 803-534-1020 to address your situation. Dr. Samuel Lambrecht and our team are happy to help!
